I am a retired university lecturer and author. My current painting is figurative and seeks to combine historical realism with significant content.
I was born into a working class family in Grimsby, went to Grammar school and then trained as a painter in a University art department in Newcastle upon Tyne from 1956 to 1961. In 1958, I won first prize in a painting competition organised by Tyne Tees Television (the judge was Lawrence Gowing). On graduation I moved to London. I have worked as an art librarian, art critic, art historian and university lecturer. I have held some solo shows and participated in many group exhibitions. My works are in Wolverhampton Art gallery and many private collections.
