In Kyung Seo’s nature aesthetics starts from sympathy on the weak dragonfly. Her picture is a gum print for a dragonfly focusing on two couples of small and slim wings with net. ‘Gum print’ is made upon illuminating the light for a long time on the film over the printing paper which is used with dichromate rubber printing. This is different from the modern printing method that fixes the image quickly on the printing paper using silver salts in the darkroom. For that reason, Gum print is the right one for ‘pictorialism’ like classical photographs in 19th century. With brown tone background, twisted wings of dragonfly that are about to be torn make the artist’s feeling.
