  • Description

Gnanodaya in Sanskrit means enlightenment. Inspired by Buddhism, this semi-abstract work depicts the mind of a Meditating Buddha. A multi-level work, the left side of the painting doubles up as a part of face of a meditating Buddha and also as the Bodh Gaya tree under which Gautama Buddha of India is believed to have attained enlightenment.

The right side of the work has a silhouette of Buddha sitting in a meditating posture, representing the possible image in Buddha’s mind.

This artist through this work conveys the idea that when Buddha attained enlightenment, he probably saw himself in his meditation, since he propounded the idea that we are our own salvation.

Originally made with water color on paper. This is a limited edition giclee print of the same.
