Life cannot be planned out in its entirety. Life shines more beautifully amid both the inevitables and the coincidences. As life consists in sequences of being in control and then navigating the currents of chance, so my paintings seek to emulate life's pattern

I draw my desired lines on canvas to capture the object, and give it further e-pression with the application of paints using a brush, a dab of a finger, or a splash. Then I render changes through the medium of water. The paints that were applied over the drawn lines spread out free of my intention and control. I wait for the wetted paints to take their course, dry, and then repeat the process. All of this is meaningful to me.

In any case, every work-piece has its own unique meaning, capturing diverse aspects in our lives.


My experiments in paint's transformation - left to its own free interaction with water - have focused on portraits for quite sometime. I feel humans are good subjects for conveying both the consciously willed and the contingency within life. Lately my efforts have been directed to using the same methods to depict still lifes. A flower in a glass vase or a potted cactus, being both Nature and artifice, strike me as like to our own human selves - natural and, at the same time, dependent on civilization and technique. I paint in this vein.
